About Martin Wimmer / English

Martin Wimmer was born in 1968 in Mühldorf am Inn and lives in Berlin. He currently holds a senior position in the German government and is an internationally recognized expert on sustainable digitalization – and Texas music.

Since September 2025, Martin Wimmer is Chief Digital Officer (CDO) and Director “Digital Transformation and Government Modernisation” at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung – BMZ).

From September 2023 until August 2025, Martin Wimmer was head of the Directorate G 1 – Development Policy Issues. He oversaw four divisions: „Agenda 2030, Poverty and Inequality“, „Feminist Development Policy“, „Governance“, and „Human Rights, Inclusion, Media“.

In 2019, Martin Wimmer became the first Chief Digital Officer (CDO) of a German Federal Ministry (for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety) . Prior to that, he spent more than two decades in senior leadership roles in the public and private sectors, always with a focus on change communications and digital transformation.

Martin Wimmer is the author of over ten books on a variety of topics, including novels, essays, and song lyrics.

In the Americana music community, he is known as a music book author (A Haven For Songs), lyricist, music critic, curator of music-related websites, social media groups and playlists, and a DJ who plays songs from beginning to end. His focus is on singer-songwriters, folk, country, Texas music and related stuff.

Martin was born in 1968 in Mühldorf am Inn (Bavaria) and lives in Berlin with his wife and their dog.
